How can I prioritize tickets in Jira?

I work in an IT department of a large company and we’re generally swimming in Jira tickets. We need a way to prioritize them based on how important they are and how much time they take to do. Is there a way to do this?

It is certainly frustrating to have tons of Jira tickets and not quite knowing which one should be done first. Thankfully, a method called Weighted Short Job First (WSJF) was developed just for this purpose. By attributing values for things like Business Value, Time Criticality and Risk Reduction. By following a certain calculation, it then spits out a value. The higher the value, the more important it is to get that task finished.
