What is the difference between ITSM and DevOps?

What exactly is the difference between ITSM and DevOps? Can a company have both or are they mutually exclusive?

Hi there!

To put it simply, DevOps is made up of “development” and “operations” and is a method that allows you to bridge the gap between the two. The core principles are open communication, collaboration, and shared goals. ITSM is an action-based approach to designing, executing, and hosting IT Services. In this respect, IT is viewed and delivered as a service.

Traditionally there was a “culture clash” between DevOps and ITSM. But ITSM and DevOps are not mutually exclusive; in fact, the opposite is true. There are many benefits when it comes to combining the two approaches!
